1. (1) You must make sure all tags:

   1. (a) Use the same print and format within a facility.

   2. (b) Are constructed and printed so they will not deteriorate and the message on the tag remains legible when:

      1. (i) Exposed to weather.
      2. (ii) Used in wet or damp locations.
      3. (iii) Used in corrosive environments such as areas where acid or alkali chemicals are handled or stored.

   3. (c) Have a warning about not energizing the machine or equipment.

      Note:	The warning on the tag should include wording such as:
      	1. Do not start.
      	2. Do not open.
      	3. Do not close.
      	4. Do not energize.
      	5. Do not operate.

2. (2) You must make sure tagout devices are strong enough to prevent unintentional or accidental removal.

3. (3) You must make sure the means used to attach the tag to the energy-isolating device meets all of the following:

   1. (a) Is not reusable.
   2. (b) Is self-locking.
   3. (c) Can be attached by hand.
   4. (d) Cannot be released with a force of less than fifty pounds.
   5. (e) Is similar in design and basic characteristics to a one-piece, all-environment-tolerant, nylon cable tie.
