1. (1) Each firefighter engaged in structural firefighting requiring the use of SCBA must wear and use a PASS device. PASS devices must meet the requirements of the 1993 edition of NFPA 1982, Standard on Personal Alert Safety Systems (PASS) for Firefighters. (See WAC 296-305-07001 through 296-305-07018 for wildland firefighting application.)

   Note:

   Fire departments should provide one spare PASS device for each ten units in service. If a department has less than ten devices they should have one spare.

2. (2) Each PASS device must be tested routinely to ensure it is ready for use and immediately prior to each use, and shall be maintained in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions.
3. (3) Fire departments must provide written procedures for the use of PASS devices.
4. (4) Fire departments must establish a written procedure for the care, use, maintenance, and repair of PASS devices in conjunction with manufacturer's recommendations.
