1. (1) Lever control. When slashers are operated by control levers, these levers must be connected to a horizontal bar or treadle located not more than 69 inches above the floor to control the operation from any point.

2. (2) Push-button control. Slashers operated by push-button control must have one start button at each end of the machine and stop buttons must be located on both sides of the machines at intervals spaced not more than 6 feet on centers.

   Note:

   Inching buttons should be installed.

3. (3) Dryer enclosure. The dryer enclosure must be provided with an exhaust system which will effectively prevent wet air and steam from escaping into the workroom.

4. (4) Nip guards. All nip guards must comply with Table R-1.

   The measurements in Table R-1 are all in inches.

5. (5) Expansion chambers. Slasher kettles and cookers must be provided with expansion chambers in the covers, or drains, to prevent surging over. Steam control valves must be so located that they can be operated without exposing the worker to moving parts, hot surfaces, or steam.
