1. (1) Initial eligibility. For a student to receive a mathematics/science loan, he or she must:

   1. (a) Be a "needy student" as defined by the higher education coordinating board;
   2. (b) Be a resident of Washington [as defined in WAC 250-18-010 through 250-18-060];
   3. (c) Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a student at a participating institution;
   4. (d) Be registered for at least ten credit hours or the equivalent for each term in which a loan is received;
   5. (e) Have satisfied the institution's requirements for formal acceptance as a declared major in a program of teacher education in a field of mathematics or science leading to a degree, certificate, or primary endorsement;
   6. (f) Demonstrate the capability of maintaining a 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale);
   7. (g) Certify that he or she does not owe a refund on a state need grant, a Pell grant or a supplemental educational opportunity grant, and is not in default on a loan made, insured, or guaranteed under the national direct student loan, guaranteed student loan [programs], or mathematics/science loan program[s];

   8. (h) [Have attained junior status or higher; or]

      [(i)] Be a certificated teacher who satisfies (a), (b), (c), (d), and (g) of this subsection and has been formally accepted into a program in teacher education leading to a degree, certificate[,] or primary endorsement in a field of science or mathematics.

2. (2) Continuing eligibility. For a student to maintain continuing eligibility for additional mathematics/science loans, he or she must:

   1. (a) Continue to meet the basic eligibility requirements listed under subsection (1) of this section;
   2. (b) Not have reached the ten thousand dollar cumulative borrowing limit of the program; and

   3. (c) Satisfy academic progress requirements of the program by maintaining a 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the time period the loan was received and successfully complete the required number of credit hours.

      Reviser's note: RCW 34.05.395 requires the use of underlining and deletion marks to indicate amendments to existing rules, and deems ineffectual changes not filed by the agency in this manner.
