Pursuant to RCW 18.53.010 (2) and (7), the optometry board adopts the following drug formulary of oral Schedule II hydrocodone combination products, Schedule III through V controlled substances, legend drugs, and injectable drugs for diagnostic, therapeutic, or mitigation purposes in the practice of optometry. No licensed optometrist may use, prescribe, dispense, purchase, possess, or administer these drugs except as authorized and to the extent permitted by the board. This section includes the approved oral and injectable drug formulary. Optometrists must consult WAC 246-851-590 for specific guidelines on these drugs or drug categories.

1. (1) Approved nonscheduled oral drugs include:

   1. (a) Analgesics and adjuvant analgesics agents.
   2. (b) Antibiotic agents excluding those listed in WAC 246-851-590(1).
   3. (c) Antiemetic agents listed under WAC 246-851-590(3).
   4. (d) Antifungal agents listed under WAC 246-851-590(2).
   5. (e) Antihistamine agents.
   6. (f) Antiparasitic agents.
   7. (g) Antiviral agents.
   8. (h) Corticosteroid agents.
   9. (i) Decongestant agents.
   10. (j) Diagnostic dye agents.
   11. (k) Diuretic agents listed under WAC 246-851-590(4).
   12. (l) Dry eye agents.
   13. (m) Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents excluding those listed in WAC 246-851-590(5).

2. (2) Approved oral controlled substances limited to Schedule II hydrocodone combination products and Schedules III, IV, and V.

   1. (a) Schedule II hydrocodone combination products.
   2. (b) Schedule III controlled substances.
   3. (c) Schedule IV controlled substances.
   4. (d) Schedule IV anti-anxiety/sedative substances.
   5. (e) Schedule V controlled substances.

3. (3) Approved injectable substances. Local injections with the exception of, vitreous, subtenon, retrobulbar, intraorbital, or botulinum toxin.

   1. (a) Local anesthetic agents, with or without epinephrine, with or without buffer.
   2. (b) Local antibiotic agents excluding those listed in WAC 246-851-590(1).
   3. (c) Local antifungal agents listed under WAC 246-851-590(2).
   4. (d) Local corticosteroid agents.
   5. (e) Local and IV diagnostic dye agents.
   6. (f) IM epinephrine for the treatment of anaphylactic shock.
