When a certified counselor applicant or certified adviser applicant's counseling-related degree is not listed in WAC 246-810-024, the department uses the following coursework standards to determine whether the degree contained enough counseling coursework to qualify the applicant for certification.

1. (1) For certified counselors, an applicant's degree must be considered as counseling-related if the degree contains at least 45 quarter, or 30 semester, college credits in counseling-related subjects listed in subsection (3) of this section.
2. (2) For certified advisers, an applicant's degree must be considered as counseling-related if the degree contains at least 23 quarter, or 15 semester, college credits in counseling-related subjects listed in subsection (3) of this section.

3. (3) Counseling-related subjects include:

   1. (a) Addictive behavior counseling;
   2. (b) Anger management counseling;
   3. (c) Applied behavioral science;
   4. (d) Behavior management or behavior modification;
   5. (e) Biofeedback;
   6. (f) Career counseling;
   7. (g) Child development;
   8. (h) Clinical social work;
   9. (i) Community mental health;
   10. (j) Counseling children and adolescents;
   11. (k) Counseling ethics;
   12. (l) Crisis counseling and abuse;
   13. (m) Developmental disability counseling;
   14. (n) Developmental psychology;
   15. (o) Elder counseling;
   16. (p) Grief counseling;
   17. (q) Human growth and development;
   18. (r) Human services counseling;
   19. (s) Marriage and family counseling;
   20. (t) Mental health counseling;
   21. (u) Ministerial or pastoral counseling;
   22. (v) Multicultural considerations in counseling;
   23. (w) Organizational psychology;
   24. (x) Personality theory;
   25. (y) Physiological psychology;
   26. (z) Psychiatry and psychiatric nursing;
   27. (aa) Psychological measurement and research;
   28. (bb) Psychology;
   29. (cc) Psychopathology and abnormal psychology;
   30. (dd) Sexuality and counseling;
   31. (ee) Social work;
   32. (ff) Special education;
   33. (gg) Stress disorder counseling;
   34. (hh) Substance use disorder counseling; and
   35. (ii) Transpersonal psychology.
