1. (1) Panoramic devices (devices in which the source is physically removed from shielded container during exposure) should be inspected for:

   1. (a) Radiographic exposure unit;

      1. (i) Abnormal surface radiation levels anywhere on camera;
      2. (ii) Condition of safety plugs;
      3. (iii) Proper operation of locking mechanism;
      4. (iv) Condition of pigtail connector;
      5. (v) Alignment of "S" tube with exit port;
      6. (vi) Condition of carrying device (for example, straps and handles);
      7. (vii) Proper labeling;

   2. (b) Source tube;

      1. (i) Rust, corrosion, dirt, or sludge buildup inside the source tube;
      2. (ii) Condition of source tube connector;
      3. (iii) Condition of source stop;
      4. (iv) Kinks or damage that could prevent proper operation;

   3. (c) Control cables and drive mechanism;

      1. (i) Proper drive mechanism for this camera, if appropriate;
      2. (ii) Changes in general operating characteristics;
      3. (iii) Condition of connector on drive cable;
      4. (iv) Drive cable flexibility, wear, and rust;
      5. (v) Excessive wear or damage to crank assembly parts;
      6. (vi) Damage to drive cable conduit that could prevent the cable from moving freely;
      7. (vii) Connection of the control cable connector with the pigtail connector for proper mating;
      8. (viii) Proper operation of source position indicator, if applicable.

2. (2) Directional beam devices should be inspected for:

   1. (a) Abnormal surface radiation;
   2. (b) Changes in the general operating characteristics of the unit;
   3. (c) Proper operation of shutter mechanism;
   4. (d) Chafing or binding of shutter mechanism;
   5. (e) Damage to the device which might impair its operation;
   6. (f) Proper operation of locking mechanism;
   7. (g) Proper drive mechanism with this camera, if appropriate;
   8. (h) Condition of carrying device (for example, straps and handles);
   9. (i) Proper labeling.
