1. A. The director of laboratory service shall be a physician member of the medical staff. If the physician director of laboratory service is not a pathologist, a pathologist shall be retained on a consultant basis.

   When the pathologist provides services only on a consultative basis, these services shall be provided at least on a monthly basis. A written evaluation report with recommendations to the medical staff and administration shall be provided by the consultant pathologist on a monthly basis.

2. B. Laboratories shall have adequate space, equipment, and supplies and shall be operated according to 42 CFR Part 493.
3. C. Provisions shall be made to assure continuous availability of emergency laboratory services.
