Utah Code Ann. § 76-16-403

Fraudulent practice to affect market price.

  1. (1) Terms defined in Sections 76-1-101.5, 76-16-101, and 76-16-401 apply to this section.
  2. (2) An actor commits fraudulent practice to affect market price if the actor willfully makes or publishes a false statement, spreads a false rumor, or employs any other false or fraudulent means or device, with the intent to affect the market price of any kind of property.
  3. (3) A violation of Subsection (2) is:

    1. (a) a class B misdemeanor; and
    2. (b) subject to a fine of not less than $500 and no more than $4,000 for each offense.
