Utah Code Ann. § 53-22-109

School safety -- Compliance.

Effective May 7, 2025Enacted by Chapter 388, 2025 General Session
  1. (1) As used in this section:

    1. (a) "Compliance issue" means a violation of a school safety requirement under:

      1. (i) this chapter; or
      2. (ii) rules established in accordance with this chapter.
    2. (b) "Tiered system of support" means an escalating system of:

      1. (i) technical assistance;
      2. (ii) intervention; and
      3. (iii) corrective action.
  2. (2) The state security chief shall, in collaboration with the School Safety Center:

    1. (a) establish a tiered system of support for a compliance issue;
    2. (b) develop implementation procedures for the system; and
    3. (c) define criteria for:

      1. (i) evaluating a compliance issue;
      2. (ii) assigning an appropriate tier; and
      3. (iii) monitoring progress.
  3. (3) In establishing the system under Subsection (2), the state security chief and School Safety Center shall consider:

    1. (a) severity of the compliance issue;
    2. (b) risk to student and staff safety;
    3. (c) available technical assistance resources;
    4. (d) local education agency capacity; and
    5. (e) required corrective action timelines.
