1. (1) Terms used in this rule are defined in Sections 53-3-102, 53-3-402 and 49 CFR 383.

2. (2) In addition:

   1. (a) "DOT card" means a certificate issued to an individual who has been medically examined and found physically qualified to operate a commercial motor vehicle in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration standards;
   2. (b) "driving type" means an applicant for a CDL must report if they meet the federal requirements under 49 CFR 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, the state requirements under Section 53-3-303.5, or they meet the federal requirements under 49 CFR 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations with the exception that they are under 21 years of age;
   3. (c) "SPE certificate" means a type of medical exception certificate issued to an individual who has been medically examined and cannot meet the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration standards to get a commercial driver license due to impaired or missing limbs; and
   4. (d) "variance" means a type of medical exception certificate issued to an individual who has been medically examined and cannot meet the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration standards to get a commercial license due to physical impairments.
