- (1) "Durable medical equipment" (DME)" means items primarily and customarily used to serve a medical purpose and are not generally beneficial to an individual in the absence of a disability, illness, or injury, can withstand repeated use, and can be reusable or removable.
- (2) "Durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics, and supplies (DMEPOS)" means the items covered under the provisions of this rule.
- (3) "Orthotic Device" means an orthopedic appliance or apparatus used to support, align, prevent, or correct deformities or to improve the function of movable parts of the body.
- (4) "Prosthetic device" means a replacement, corrective, or supportive device to artificially replace a missing portion of the body, prevent or correct physical deformity or malfunctions, including promotion of adaptive functioning, or support a weak or deformed part of the body.
- (5) "Supplies" means items that are consumable, disposable, or cannot withstand repeated use by more than one individual and is required to address an individual medical disability, illness, or injury.
