1. (1) body piercing needles are:

   1. (a) sterile, single-use, and manufactured for either medical or body piercing purposes;
   2. (b) disposed of in a sharps container immediately after use; and
   3. (c) not thinner than 20 gauge or thicker than six gauge;
2. (2) after use on each client, any equipment, material, multi-use implement, and tool is properly cleaned and sterilized;

3. (3) jewelry to be used for a new body piercing is:

   1. (a) inspected by the body artist before use to ensure it is free of any nick, scratch, and other imperfection;
   2. (b) sterilized before use;

   3. (c) only made from the following materials:

      1. (i) 00G to 14G gauge glass, fused quartz, borosilicate, and soda-lime that is lead free;
      2. (ii) ASTM B-392 compliant niobium, except matte finish black;
      3. (iii) ASTM F-67, ASTM F-136, ASTM F-1295, or ASTM F-1295 compliant titanium and titanium alloy;
      4. (iv) ASTM F-138 compliant stainless steel;
      5. (v) ASTM F-754 compliant PTFE;
      6. (vi) platinum;
      7. (vii) solid 14K or 18K white, yellow, or rose gold that is nickel free and cadmium free; or
      8. (viii) Tygon; and

   4. (d) not made from any of the following materials:

      1. (i) aluminum;
      2. (ii) any type of organic material, including horn, bone, coconut wood, bamboo, or ivory;
      3. (iii) glass with gauge size higher than 14G;
      4. (iv) gold filled, plated, rolled, or vermeil jewelry;
      5. (v) high-density, low-porosity nontoxic plastics such as acrylic;
      6. (vi) silver;
      7. (vii) stainless steel that is not ASTM F-138 compliant;
      8. (viii) stone;
      9. (ix) tempered glass; or
      10. (x) wood of any type; and
4. (4) each body artist provides the client with a small amount of antiseptic mouthwash in a disposable cup before any oral piercing and advises the client to rinse thoroughly for at least 30 seconds.
