- (a) The purpose of Sections R315-266-600 through R315-266-602 is to reduce emissions of ignitable spent refrigerants to the lowest achievable level by maximizing the recovery and safe recycling for reuse of the refrigerants during the service, repair, and disposal of appliances.
- (b) The requirements of Sections R315-266-600 through R315-266-602 operate in lieu of Rules R315-260 through R315-270 and apply to lower flammability spent refrigerants, as defined in Section R315-266-601, where the refrigerant exhibits the hazardous waste characteristic of ignitability per Section R315-261-21 and is being recycled for reuse in the United States.
- (c) These requirements do not apply to other ignitable spent refrigerants. Ignitable spent refrigerants not subject to Sections R315-266-600 through R315-266-602 are subject to the applicable requirements of Rules R315-260 through R315-270 when recovered, that is, removed from an appliance and stored in an external container, dispose of, or both.
