1. (a) Status.—

   1. (1) The Civil Air Patrol is a nonprofit corporation that is federally chartered under section 40301 of title 36.
   2. (2) Except as provided in section 9492(b)(2) of this title, the Civil Air Patrol is not an instrumentality of the Federal Government for any purpose.
2. (b) Purposes.— The purposes of the Civil Air Patrol are set forth in section 40302 of title 36.

Amendment by Pub. L. 115–232 effective Feb. 1, 2019, with provision for the coordination of amendments and special rule for certain redesignations, see section 800 of Pub. L. 115–232, set out as a note preceding section 3001 of this title.

Effective Date

Pub. L. 106–398, § 1 [[div. A], title X, § 1090(c)], Oct. 30, 2000, 114 Stat. 1654, 1654A–300, provided that:

“The amendments made by this section [enacting this section and sections 9492 to 9498 of this title and amending sections 40302 and 40303 of Title 36, Patriotic and National Observances, Ceremonies, and Organizations] shall take effect 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act [

Oct. 30, 2000].”
