1. (a) Before assuming the duties of office, each director must execute a bond for $5,000 that is:

   1. (1) payable to the district; and
   2. (2) conditioned on the faithful performance of the director's duties.
2. (b) The board may pay for a director's bond with district money.
3. (c) The bond shall be kept in the permanent records of the district.
