A person with whom a garment is left for repair, alteration, dyeing, cleaning, laundering, or pressing may retain possession of the garment until:

1. (1) the amount due the person under the contract for the work is paid; or
2. (2) if no amount is specified by contract, the reasonable and usual compensation is paid.
