In this chapter:

1. (1) 'Board' means the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.

2. (2) 'Intractable pain' means a state of pain for which:

   1. (A) the cause of the pain cannot be removed or otherwise treated; and

   2. (B) in the generally accepted course of medical practice, relief or cure of the cause of the pain:

      1. (i) is not possible; or
      2. (ii) has not been found after reasonable efforts.
3. (3) 'Physician' means a physician licensed by the board.
