1. (a) This section applies to:

   1. (1) a physician, hospital, medical organization, university health science center, university medical school, or an officer or employee of that person or entity; and
   2. (2) a health maintenance organization or an officer, employee, or agent of the health maintenance organization, including an independent practice association or other physician association contracting with the health maintenance organization.

2. (b) A person or entity covered by this section is not liable for damages to any person for furnishing information, reports, or records to a medical committee relating to a patient:

   1. (1) examined or treated by the physician; or

   2. (2) treated or confined in:

      1. (A) the hospital;
      2. (B) a clinic or facility staffed or operated by a university health science center or university medical school; or
      3. (C) a hospital, clinic, or facility staffed, operated, or used by a health maintenance organization.
