- (1) Any Tennessee resident born after January 1, 1989, who is operating a boat of more than 8.5 horsepower, must have onboard the TWRA-issued Boating Safety Education Certificate card.
(2) To receive the Boating Safety Education Certificate card a person must:
- (a) Pass a National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) approved boating safety examination that is approved by the TWRA; and
- (b) Purchase the Boating Safety Exam Permit for $10.00 from any licensing agent that sells hunting and fishing licenses, which includes TWRA Regional Offices and the TWRA online licensing portal.
- (3) To receive a replacement card, a person must purchase a Replacement Boating Certification card for $5.00 from any licensing agent that sells hunting and fishing licenses, which includes TWRA Regional Offices and the TWRA online licensing portal.
- (4) Falsification of a document with intent that it will be taken as a genuine government record may be prosecuted pursuant to T.C.A. § 39-16-504.
