The following procedures shall be observed in the use and operation of automated dispensing devices used for storing and dispensing capsules or tablets:

1. (1) The lot number of each drug contained therein must be listed or posted on the device.
2. (2) After each lot number is used, the portion of the device where the drug was contained must be thoroughly cleaned to remove all residue before refilling.
3. (3) Lot numbers may not be mixed.
4. (4) The device may be loaded by a pharmacist; or a pharmacy intern or a pharmacy technician under the supervision of a pharmacist.
