1. (1) For patients aged 16 or older, who have a mental illness or serious emotional disturbance, this chapter applies to:

   1. (a) Application for voluntary admission to or discharge from a hospital or inpatient treatment resource;

   2. (b) After voluntary or involuntary admission to a hospital or inpatient treatment resource, determination of the patient’s capacity to make an informed decision regarding:

      1. 1. Inpatient mental health treatment, including use of psychotropic medication,
      2. 2. Release of information,
      3. 3. Request for information, or
      4. 4. Treatment of a physical condition or illness in an inpatient psychiatric treatment setting.
