Surface waters of the state that are of high quality or are of exceptional recreational or ecological significance may be designated by the board as outstanding state resource waters. If high quality waters constitute an outstanding state resource water, that water quality shall be maintained and protected. Anyone wishing to nominate outstanding state resource waters shall follow petition requirements outlined in SDCL 1-26-13.
