70:03:01:47. Extended period permit -- Over 80,000 pounds on interstate permit. A permit-issuing authority may issue to an applicant an extended period permit which allows the operation on the interstate highway system of a vehicle which exceeds a gross weight of 80,000 pounds. The weight of the vehicle must conform to the tire, axle, and bridge weight requirements in SDCL 32-22-16, 32-22-16.1, and 32-22-21, and the vehicle combination may not exceed the length limits in SDCL 32-22-8.1. Except for a vehicle consisting of a straight truck or tractor-semitrailer combination, the vehicle may not exceed a speed of 65 miles per hour, including all enforcement tolerances.
