The department may request a medical examination of the applicant or recipient only when medical information is not available from physicians' records and other medical sources to establish mental or physical incapacity. If requested, the examination must be completed by a licensed physician, physician's assistant, or nurse practitioner of the applicant's or recipient's choice.
