A South Dakota certificate of title on which a lien has been noted must be surrendered, if available, when a title for a vehicle is submitted on which a repossession is being executed. Other documents required are a copy of or the original lien instrument, an application for certificate of title signed by the lien holder, the affidavit of repossession on the form provided by the department, and the fee required by SDCL 32-3-18. The lien may not be canceled.
