Each facility shall arrange for an immunization for pneumococcal disease. If immunization is lacking and the resident's physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner recommends immunization, the facility shall encourage a resident to obtain an immunization for pneumococcal pneumonia within 14 days of admission. Documentation of the vaccination or refusal must be recorded in the resident's care record.
