24 : 28 : 06 : 06 . Teacher certificate areas of preparation. A teacher shall hold a valid certificate issued by the Secretary in the respective areas of teacher preparation:

1. (1) Early childhood;
2. (2) Elementary;
3. (3) Secondary;
4. (4) Career and technical education;
5. (5) K-12;
6. (6) Early childhood special education;
7. (7) K-12 special education; or
8. (8) Alternative teacher certification issued according to §§ 24:28:11 to 24:28:14, inclusive.
