A pharmacist of a licensed pharmacy in a hospital, nursing facility, hospice program, or related facility may provide, upon written request of the health care facility's prescribers, a defined supply of drugs in an emergency drug kit or crash cart. The emergency drugs must meet the immediate therapeutic needs of a patient to prevent harm to the patient due to a delay in obtaining the drugs from the pharmacy. The emergency drugs must remain the property of the licensed pharmacy and must be stored on-site in a suitable, controlled location in the health care facility. The pharmacy staff shall inspect all emergency drugs at least monthly.
