Any customer may request the utility to test the customer's electric or gas meter. The utility shall make the test as soon as possible after receipt of the request. If a request is made within one year after a previous request, the utility may require a residential customer to pay a $10 deposit and may require any other customer to pay a deposit as required by the applicable tariff. The deposit shall be refunded only if the meter is found to have an error as defined in §§ 20:10:17:06 and 20:10:17:07.
A customer or a representative of the customer may be present when the meter test is conducted. The utility shall supply a report giving the name of the customer requesting the test; the date of the request; the location of the meter; the type, make, size and number of the meter; the date tested; and the result of the test to the customer within one week after completion of the test.
