(A) The following officials or their designees shall serve as members of the council:

1. (1) the Director of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control;
2. (2) the State Superintendent of Education;
3. (3) the Director of the Department of Social Services;
4. (4) the Director of the Division on Aging in the Governor's Office;
5. (5) the Director of Mental Health;
6. (6) the Director of the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs;
7. (7) the Director of the State Department of Health and Human Services;
8. (8) the Chairman of the Statewide Health Coordinating Council;
9. (9) the President of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics;
10. (10) the President of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Academy of Gerontology;
11. (11) the Director of the Clemson University Extension Service;
12. (12) the Director of the South Carolina State College Extension Service;
13. (13) the Director of the South Carolina Nutrition Council;
14. (14) the Director of the South Carolina Network of Food Banks;
15. (15) the Director of the South Carolina Legal Services Association;
16. (16) the Director of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons;
17. (17) the Director of the South Carolina Farm Bureau;
18. (18) the Director of the South Carolina Committee Against Hunger;
19. (19) the President of the South Carolina Association of Community Agencies;
20. (20) the President of the South Carolina Dietetic Association.

(B) The following appointive members shall serve as members of the council:

1. (1) a member of the Health Care Planning and Oversight Committee, to be appointed by the chairman;
2. (2) a member of the Joint Legislative Committee on Children, to be appointed by the chairman;

3. (3) a member of the Joint Legislative Committee on Aging, to be appointed by the chairman.

   The Governor shall appoint one member, knowledgeable about issues of hunger and nutrition, from each of the six congressional districts of the State with the advice and consent of the Senate.

   The terms of office of the legislative members are coterminous with their respective terms as members of the House or Senate. The six members to be appointed by the Governor must be appointed for terms of four years, except that of those initially appointed, three must be appointed for terms of two years, and three must be appointed for terms of four years, the terms to be determined by lot. Members appointed by the Governor may not serve for more than two consecutive terms. All members of the council shall serve until their successors are appointed and qualified. Any vacancy occurring for any reason must be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term by appointment in the manner of the original appointment.
