1. (a) The city of Warwick may impose penalties for each violation of chapter 8 of the compiled ordinances of the city of Warwick not exceeding the sum of six hundred dollars ($600), or by imprisonment of not more than six (6) months in jail or in a house of correction, unless the penalties are provided for otherwise by statute. All fines that are recovered shall inure to the benefit of the city of Warwick.
2. (b) The city of Warwick may by ordinance impose a penalty that those persons who are found guilty of malicious damage to street lights in the city shall, in addition to any other penalty imposed by a court, have imposed on them a fine equivalent to the replacement cost and labor charges of those street lights. However, in no case shall the fine imposed exceed five hundred dollars ($500).
