1. (a) General rule.— A special registration plate shall, upon application, be issued to an individual who is a member of the armed forces of the United States, including a member of a reserve component or the National Guard, under the following conditions:

   1. (1) A fee of $20 has been paid in addition to the registration fee.
   2. (2) Documentation required by the department has been provided.
   3. (3) The vehicle belongs to the applicant.
   4. (4) The plate issued appropriately designates the branch of service and includes the service emblem of which the applicant is a member.

2. (b) Eligibility.— A plate issued under subsection (a) shall be for members of the Pennsylvania National Guard and the following branches of the armed forces of the United States:

   1. (1) Army.
   2. (2) Navy.
   3. (3) Air Force.
   4. (4) Marine Corps.
   5. (5) Coast Guard.

3. (c) Limitation.— A plate issued under this section may only be used on a passenger car or truck with a registered gross weight of not more than 14,000 pounds.
