1. (a) Instructions for use of prorating tables. The following instructions will be applicable for the use of prorating tables:

   1. (1) General instructions. The following general instructions will apply:

      1. (i) After the semimonthly grant is known, the grant for a period less than 14 days may be determined directly from the tables provided the grant is less than $101. If the grant is $101 or more it will be necessary to add two prorations as follows:
      2. (ii) The table is read by choosing the table for the appropriate number of days, going down the far left column to the actual whole dollar amount, then moving to the right to the column showing the actual cents in the semimonthly grant.
      3. (iii) In these tables amounts are multiples of ten cents. Therefore, the semimonthly grant must be adjusted to the nearest multiple of ten cents before referring to the table. Calculated grants ending in one, two, three or four-cents amounts will be adjusted to the next lower ten cent amount; in five, six, seven, eight or nine cents amounts, to the next higher ten cent amount.
      4. (iv) The prorated grants tables have also been adjusted to the nearest multiple of ten cents so that the actual amount of the prorated check may be read directly from the table.

   2. (2) Rules for prorating AFDC and GA grants. These rules will be followed in determining the amount of a prorated AFDC and GA grant for a period different from the regular payment period:

      1. (i) The period covered by a prorated grant will begin with the effective date of the grant and ends with a date not later than the day before the next regular payment date on which a regular grant will be received.
      2. (ii) A grant for a full semimonthly payment period will always be the regular semimonthly grant even though this period may be more or less than 15 days.
      3. (iii) A grant for part of a full semimonthly payment period may not exceed the regular semimonthly grant even though the period covered is more than 15 days. If the period covered is less than 15 days , the table set forth in paragraph (1)(i) will be used to compute the amount of the grant.

      4. (iv) A grant for more than a full semimonthly payment period will be equal to the sum of the grant for the number of days preceding the next regular payment day plus one regular semimonthly grant. Prorations for more than one semimonthly payment period will be obtained by adding the proration to the semimonthly grant.

         Examples
         

         The following are seven examples for prorating grants using these rules and the tables.
         Payment Dates: August 12, 26; September 13, 28; October 13, 28. Semimonthly Grant: $33.70 Prorated Grant Period

   3. (3) Prorating SBP payments. SBP payments will be prorated only when nursing home care payments are started or stopped. These are the only prorated SBP grants that may be authorized when the monthly payment is less than $85. When prorating an SBP grant of less than $85, the following rules will apply:

      1. (i) The ‘‘Cash Grant’’ on the Form PA 21-BN will be divided by two. This amount will be considered as if it were the grant for a full semimonthly payment period of 15 days.
      2. (ii) The four rules cited in this subsection will be followed.
2. (b) Conversion table. The conversion table will be used in computations involving conversion of weekly amounts to their monthly equivalents.

Example Problem:Prorate $124.30 for 12 days Solution:Prorate $100 for 12 days= $78.90 Prorate 24.30 for 12 days= 19.20 Answer $98.10
