1. (1) A person who is an owner, lessor or lessee of a motor vehicle or who employs or otherwise directs the driver of a motor vehicle, commits the offense of permitting the unlawful operation of a vehicle if the person knowingly permits or requires the operation of the vehicle in violation of any of the following:

   1. (a) The rules of the road.
   2. (b) The laws governing equipment of motor vehicles.
   3. (c) The laws governing weight of motor vehicles.
   4. (d) The laws governing operator driving privileges.
   5. (e) The laws governing registration or titling of vehicles.
2. (2) The offense described in this section, permitting unlawful operation of a vehicle, is a Class B traffic violation.
