1. (1) In addition to the requirements of ORS 479.630(16), a limited renewable energy technician shall be employed by a limited renewable energy contractor or electrical contractor.

2. (2) Persons seeking to be licensed under this rule shall provide proof of completion of a board-approved apprenticeship program that includes:

   1. (a) A minimum of 4,000 hours of on-the-job training in the following work areas:

      1. (A) 1,500 hours total with a minimum of 1,000 hours in photovoltaics and a minimum of 500 hours in other renewable electrical energy system installations, including, but not limited to:

         1. (i) Wire pulling and splices;
         2. (ii) Conduit, flex, tray and duct;
         3. (iii) Control panels and controls;
         4. (iv) Wiring devices; and
         5. (v) Removal and finish work of renewable electrical energy systems including wind, solar, micro-hydroelectricity, photovoltaic, fuel cells and engine generators for off-grid systems;
      2. (B) 1,500 hours minimum in balance of system including, but not limited to, installation, removal and finish of inverters, batteries, regulation, metering, conditioning equipment and systems; and

      3. (C) 1,000 hours in other related on-the-job training including, but not limited to:

         1. (i) National Electrical Code requirements for design of system;
         2. (ii) Troubleshooting;
         3. (iii) Maintenance; and
         4. (iv) Plan/blueprint reading; and

   2. (b) A minimum of 288 hours of classroom or related training covering:

      1. (A) Electrical mathematics;
      2. (B) Safety and accident prevention;
      3. (C) Care and use of hand and power tools;
      4. (D) Blueprint reading and electrical symbols;
      5. (E) Introduction to the National Electrical Code;
      6. (F) Electrical fundamentals and basic theory, including alternating and direct current;
      7. (G) Electrical measuring devices;
      8. (H) Wiring methods;
      9. (I) Related electrical statutes and rules;
      10. (J) Fundamentals of electronics;
      11. (K) Renewable electrical energy systems including, but not limited to, systems and devices as set forth in ORS 479.630(16)(b)(A);
      12. (L) Class 2 and 3 circuits; and

      13. (M) Basic mechanics — applied physics and theory.
