1. (1) Under the supervision of a licensed nurse, a CMA may administer:

   1. (a) Oral, sublingual and buccal medications;
   2. (b) Eye medications;
   3. (c) Ear medications;
   4. (d) Nasal medications;
   5. (e) Rectal medications;
   6. (f) Vaginal medications;
   7. (g) Skin ointments, topical medications including patches and transdermal medications;
   8. (h) Medications by gastrostomy and jejunostomy tubes;
   9. (i) Premeasured medication delivered by aerosol or nebulizer; and
   10. (j) Medications delivered by metered hand-held inhalers.
2. (2) A CMA may administer  pro re nata (PRN) medications including controlled substances to stable clients according to the licensed independent practitioner's orders.

3. (3) A CMA may:

   1. (a) Administer regularly scheduled controlled substances;
   2. (b) Jointly witness wasted controlled substances with a licensed nurse;
   3. (c) Count controlled substances with a licensed nurse or another CMA;
   4. (d) Perform fingerstick CBG test;
   5. (e) Turn oxygen on and off at predetermined, established flow rate; and
   6. (f) Add fluid to established jejunostomy or gastrostomy tube feedings and change established tube feeding bags.

4. (4) A CMA may not administer medications by the following routes:

   1. (a) Central lines;
   2. (b) Colostomy;
   3. (c) Intramuscular;
   4. (d) Intrathecal;
   5. (e) Intravenous;
   6. (f) Nasogastric;
   7. (g) Nonmetered inhaler;
   8. (h) Subcutaneous;
   9. (i) Intradermal;
   10. (j) Urethral;
   11. (k) Epidural; or
   12. (l) Endotracheal.

5. (5) A CMA may not administer the following kinds of medications:

   1. (a) Barium and other diagnostic contrast media; or
   2. (b) Chemotherapeutic agents except oral maintenance chemotherapy.
6. (6) A CMA may not act as a clinical teaching associate to a student in a medication aide education program.
