- (1) All Supplemental Messages shall be displayed within the Logo Plaque in one horizontal line along the bottom of the Plaque provided that the message displays essential motorist information consistent with the service category type and related to the operation of the business. The Supplemental Message should be displayed with black letters on a yellow background. Businesses with Supplemental Messages not using black letters on a yellow background and installed prior to the revision of this rule in January 2026 may retain their design until the plaque is replaced due to the expiration of the plaque or a name change of the business.
- (2) Plaques should not display more than one Supplemental Message. Businesses with two Supplemental Messages installed prior to the revision of this rule in January 2026 may retain their design until the plaque is replaced due to the expiration of the plaque or a name change of the business.
- (3) On Interstate, Freeways and Expressways the Supplemental Message shall have a minimum letter height of five inches and be proportional in size on all Ramp Signs. On Conventional State Highways the Supplemental Message shall have a minimum letter height of two and a half inches.
- (4) Gas businesses that are exclusively card-lock stations shall display the Supplemental Message “CARD LOCK ONLY” on Interstate, Freeway and Expressway Logo Plaques and “CARD LOCK” on Conventional State Highway Logo Plaques.
- (5) Seasonal businesses or businesses that only qualify with an approved waiver shall display a concise description of the waived issue as a Supplemental Message.
- (6) Typical Supplemental Messages might include "DIESEL", "PROPANE", "24 HOUR", "RV DUMP", "RV PARKING", “RV ACCESS”, “ALT FUELS”, "BIODIESEL", “CLEAN DIESEL,” “DINNER ONLY,” and/or the abbreviations CNG, EV, E85, LNG or DEF. If a business designated as an INTERSTATE OASIS is displayed on Food or Gas Specific Service Signs, the word “OASIS” may be used as a Supplemental Message on its Logo Plaque. EV CHARGING may be used as a Supplemental Message on Logo Plaques for Gas, Food, Lodging or Camping Specific Service Signs.
- (7) All Supplemental Messages and their design on Logo Plaques shall be approved by the Council.
