The following definitions apply to OAR 581-017-0620 through OAR 581-017-0635.

1. (1) “Department” means the Oregon Department of Education.

2. (2) “Direct Academic Instruction” means scheduled time during which students are engaged in evidence-based, planned learning activities or assessments that are:

   1. (a) Culturally responsive;
   2. (b) Designed to meet academic content standards as defined in ORS 329.007, and
   3. (c) Under the direction and supervision of a teacher licensed under ORS 342.125 or an appropriately supervised instructional assistant as defined in ORS 342.120.
3. (3) “SSA Summer Program Grant” means the grant to provide instructional time during summer from the Statewide Education Initiatives Account as established by the Student Success Act in ORS 327.341.
