(a) New fire detecting systems shall be provided with fire detecting devices designed to operate on one or both of the following principles:

1. (1) Fixed temperature.
2. (2) Rate-of-rise.

(b) Fire detecting devices are classified into the following types:

1. (1) Spot devices in which thermostats are provided at specific locations.
2. (2) Continuous line devices such as fire detecting wire or pneumatic tubing, in which the thermal sensitive element is continuous.
