N.Y. Comp. Codes R. & Regs. tit. 17, § 922.5 – Shearing strength of rivets.

(a) The maximum shearing strength of rivets per square inch of cross-sectional area shall be taken as follows:

Iron rivets in single shear 38,000
Iron rivets in double shear 76,000
Steel rivets in single shear 44,000
Steel rivets in double shear 88,000
(b) A higher shearing strength may be used for rivets when it can be shown by test that the rivet material used is of such quality as to justify the use of a higher shearing strength.
