(b) A gas, electric or oil-fired incinerator shall be provided on site or by off-site shared services for the complete destruction of infectious waste. Infectious waste shall include, but shall not be limited to, dressings from open wounds, laboratory specimens, and all waste material from isolation rooms. If an incinerator is on site, it shall be located in a separate room or outdoors and shall meet the following requirements:

1. (1) Design and construction of incinerators and trash chutes shall be in accordance with NFPA 82, Standard on Incinerators and Waste and Linen Handling Systems and Equipment. Further details concerning this referenced material are contained in section 711.2(a) of this Title.
2. (2) Incinerators shall be designed and installed in accordance with the terms of the permit to construct, issued by the Department of Environmental Conservation.
