N.M. Stat. Ann. § 28-7-15
Sections 1 through 9 [28-7-15 to 28-7-23 NMSA 1978] of this act may be cited as the "Commission for the Blind Act".
History: Laws 1986, ch. 108, § 1.
The commission for the blind may use federal funds to provide independent living services to visually impaired New Mexicans under the age of 55. — The federal Vocational Rehabilitation Act funds the New Mexico state program for independent living for individuals with significant disabilities, and many of the purposes of this funding clearly encompass the services provided by the New Mexico commission for the blind (commission), and therefore the commission is lawfully permitted to use funds allocated by the federal Vocational Rehabilitation Act to provide independent living services to visually impaired individuals under the age of 55, and receipt of these funds is not a prerequisite for the commission's use, for independent living services, of reimbursements from the Social Security Administration for its vocation rehabilitation work. 2026 Op.
