The council shall:

1. A. advise the department on implementation of the provisions of the Digital Equity in Education Act;
2. B. work with the department to conduct periodic assessments of the need for educational technology in the public school system to support on-site and distance learning and make recommendations to the department on how to meet those needs; and
3. C. promote the collaborative development and implementation of educational technologies, projects and practices to enhance on-site and distance learning instruction capabilities.

The 2023 amendment, effective July 1, 2023, removed references to the former education technology bureau, and revised certain duties of the council on technology in education; in Subsection A, after "advise the", deleted "bureau" and added "department", and after "provision of the", deleted "Technology for" and added "Digital Equity in"; in Subsection B, after "work with the", deleted "bureau" and added "department"; and deleted Subsections D and E.

The 2007 amendment, effective June 15, 2007, required the council to support on-site and distance learning, and to develop and recommend a statewide cyber academy plan.
