It is the position of the board that certified nurse practitioners, certified registered nurse anesthetists and clinical nurse specialists with prescriptive authority have an obligation to treat chronic pain and that a wide variety of medicines including controlled substances and other drugs may be prescribed after a thorough evaluation has been completed.
