- (a) The operator shall determine that the area where pyrotechnic effects, special effects, or flame effects are to be utilized are safe and free of any material that could readily ignite a fire, that audience barriers are in place, and that the area is in compliance with the requirements of these rules.
(b) The operator shall ensure that all assistants, apprentices, and other personnel pertaining to a performance have received proper training in the following:
- (1) The performance of their duties;
- (2) Relevant laws, rules, and NFPA requirements relative to pyrotechnic effects, special effects, and flame effects before a proximate audience, performers, and support personnel;
- (3) All safety hazards associated with the particular performance or event; and
- (4) Communications with any required fire watch personnel.
