1. (a) Fire investigators and fire inspectors, under the direction of the state fire marshal and under the supervision of the deputy fire marshals, shall:

   1. (1) Investigate fires, structural building collapses, and incidents involving the release of carbon monoxide, other than from a motor vehicle, in accordance with procedures established by the state fire marshal;
   2. (2) Inspect state-owned buildings and other buildings in accordance with procedures established by the state fire marshal;
   3. (3) Assist local fire officials in the promulgation and enforcement of local fire codes;
   4. (4) Review architectural and engineering plans and specifications for compliance with the state fire code; and
   5. (5) Perform such other duties as directed by the state fire marshal or deputy fire marshals.
