1. (a) The inspection area shall:

   1. (1) Be within an enclosed building, unless approved by the director as a mobile service garage;
   2. (2) Be in good repair;
   3. (3) Be maintained in a safe working condition for both employees and members of the public, in the event the public is allowed to enter the inspection area;

   4. (4) Be clear of all obstructions, including;

      1. a. Shelves;
      2. b. Work benches;
      3. c. Displays;
      4. d. Machinery; and
      5. e. Stairways;
   5. (5) Be wired for electricity in accordance with local code; and
   6. (6) Have a telephone line or internet connection if reporting inspections electronically.
2. (b) Any anticipated alterations diminishing the condition or size of the inspection area shall be reported to the department, in writing, within 30 days prior to the alterations.
3. (c) The floor shall be a solid hard surface. Dirt or gravel floors shall not be allowed.
4. (d) Hoists and lifts shall be permitted in the inspection area if the equipment does not interfere with vehicle inspections.
