The procedures of midwifery shall include, as appropriate, the following:

1. (a) Basic physical examination;
2. (b) Breast examination;
3. (c) Pelvic examination;
4. (d) Venipuncture;
5. (e) Hematocrit and hemoglobin specimen collection;
6. (f) Capillary blood collection;
7. (g) Pap testing;
8. (h) Culture collection;
9. (i) Urinalysis;
10. (j) Wet mount specimen collection;
11. (k) Administration of oxygen to mother and newborn;
12. (l) Urinary bladder catheterization;
13. (m) Episiotomy;
14. (n) Neonatal resuscitation;
15. (o) Repair of tears, lacerations or episiotomy, infiltration of lidocaine hydrochloride, and use of suture material;

16. (p) Intramuscular injection of the following medications:

    1. (1) Oxytocins such as pitocin, and methergine, only for postpartum control of maternal hemorrhage;
    2. (2) Rh immune globulin, if indicated;
    3. (3) Vitamin K for control and prevention of vitamin K deficiency bleeding; and
    4. (4) Other medications as prescribed by a physician, consistent with the scope of midwifery practice as defined in this chapter;

17. (q) Oral, buccal, or rectal administration of the following medications:

    1. (1) Methergine, and misoprostol, only for postpartum control of maternal hemorrhage;
    2. (2) Vitamin K, for control and prevention of acute and late-onset hemorrhagic disease of the newborn; and
    3. (3) Other medications as prescribed by a physician, consistent with the scope of midwifery practice as defined in this chapter;

18. (r) Intravenous administration of the following fluids:

    1. (1) Ringer’s Lactate, with or without D5W;
    2. (2) Normosol-R, with or without D5W; and
    3. (3) Other medications as prescribed by a physician, consistent with the scope of midwifery practice as defined in this chapter;
19. (s) Clamping and cutting of the umbilical cord;
20. (t) Administration of newborn eye prophylaxis in accordance with RSA 132:6, I;
21. (u) Metabolic screening of the newborn in accordance with RSA 132:10-a and RSA 132:10-c;
22. (v) Newborn hearing screening;
23. (w) Newborn pulse oximetry screening, as required by RSA 132:10-aa; and
24. (x) Contraception counseling and family planning methods.
