The license requirements of this chapter shall not apply to any welder who holds a current and valid certification for welding as authorized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), for the sole purpose of joining pipe and pipe fittings, through the appropriate certified welding processes, to piping systems, under the direct supervision of the licensed fuel gas fitter or master plumber.
